What is the Fall/Winter Wardrobe Challenge?
The challenge is to put together a 30 piece collection that will serve as my primary wardrobe through winter. The purpose of this blog is to document my experience from concept to fruition.
Will you be sewing every piece?
That’s the idea but if I happen to have a piece in my closet that fits the bill, I’ll use it. I’m not going to buy/make for buying/making sake. The main goal, though, is for every piece to be intentional.
You’re taking pattern drafting class. Does that mean you’ll be drafting all the patterns you use?
Those patterns that I have knowledge to draft will be drafted by me. For all others I’ll use commercial patterns.
What inspired this challenge?
Over the past year, I’ve really enjoyed seeing the participation in Kendi’s 30 for 30 and Zoe’s Me Made Challenges. I’ve been looking for ways to make my sewing/knitting more intentional and to actually use what I’m making. I’m also, like many of you, sick of “having nothing to wear”. In an effort to understand what makes a wardrobe, I thought I’d create my own challenge inspired by these ladies.
What will you be including in your 30 pieces?
Unlike in Kendi’s challenge, I won’t be including shoes in my 30 count but I will be including coats and camisoles. The actual quantities are still unknown and something that I’ll be exploring over the summer.
When will you be unveiling the fall/winter wardrobe?
September 30, 2011. Which gives me a little over 20 weeks to put this collection together.
What do you plan to do after the fall/winter wardrobe?
I’ll start working on a spring/summer wardrobe using all of the knowledge I gained in the first challenge.
